The approach for designing the clinic was to create an atmosphere that would not only encourage but contribute towards healing of the patients. In an effort to achieve this goal various strategies were explored with respect to lighting, material and greenery.
To combat the inherited linearity of the waiting and reception area, architectural drop ceiling spanning in the opposite direction were introduced, this was done to visually give appearance of accentuated width. This ceiling feature was introduced in critical locations in the waiting area to create interest or highlight function. These drop ceiling bands were further backlit and provided an opportunity to introduce key design element - lighting, with the intention of contributing towards evoking positive feelings in patients. A cluster of this drop ceiling bands were introduced at the reception area to highlight it.
These ceiling bands were then extended on the wall and were backlit to form backdrop for the reception area. This area was further accentuated by strategic use of accent blue color behind the drop ceiling and vertical wall bands, this further helped demarcate and define the area in the relatively long narrow space.
Greenery which plays an important role in mood regulation was introduced in a panel behind the reception and strategically spread throughout the space. Conscious use of natural looking material was done to contribute towards an environment that would encourage healing.
Clinic logo is subtly introduced upon entry in the form of sculptural backlit wall art. Pendant lights resembling the logo shape continue this design feature in the remaining space. Ultimately the design was not just focused on the functionality in the space but more importantly on the atmosphere and its perception that then would assist in patients’ well being.
