DOE CREEK MONTESSORRI, LITTLE ELM, TX

Award Winner: 2022 Dallas Design Ovation Awards, Corporate (Small) - 2nd Place

The goal of the design was to create a highly experiential space that seamlessly transitions from outdoors to indoors. This was achieved through use of simple geometric shapes, bold colors and complementary materials that helped continue the experience.

Upon entering the main Reception lobby the children are greeted with an expansive space with cloud like pendant light along with a sculptural book that introduces them to the world awaiting them inside. A geometric vignette tree like entrance, with varying heights invites the children to explore the world inside. Additionally the reception table design extends the theme.

Once in the hallway, suspended geometric leaf shape from ceiling in varying sizes create an atmosphere of walking under a tree canopy as one would along the outside creek. Further this leaf shape is extended on the wall to create display boards or house classroom name and literature. This is also where the children are re-introduced to the critters, similar to the outside environment with the idea of putting the child at ease while giving the teachers a platform to start the learning process.

The aim of the design was to stimulate children’s curiosity and to encourage them to absorb information through exploring.
